When we go on vacation, we have a pet sitter check on the cats every day. I called the local Humane Society and asked for a recommendation. It's not expensive either, she only charges $10 per day and could be scheduled to come every 2 days or so, but we prefer daily for peace of mind. DH and I used to travel alot and we left our first generation of cats home alone Mon-Fri many weeks. We could not have afforded a pet sitter and didn't have nearby friends or neighbors who could do it.
I have noticed this for many years and find it hard to believe her cat, is there alone all that time. Also what if I'm wrong and she sneaks it out when I am not noticing. I have seen her leaving many time and there is never any cage taken out. When I adopted my cat the SPCA suggested that 6 hours should be the limit to leave a cat alone. I know there are times when it's necessary to leave them but always with someone to look in at least once a day, to make sure they are fed, clean, and not sick.

If you work or have to leave for a trip, you can try and arrange for someone to come and spend a bit of time with your cat. At least this way, your cat gets some sort of attention, mental stimulation, and love. Scoop the litter boxes and ensure there are enough of them around for your cat to use while you’re away. Whether you have to leave your cat alone for work or on an extended weekend trip, you will have some peace of mind knowing that at least your pet’s basic needs are being met. As independent as they are, cats still crave attention and interaction. Plus, they can get in all kinds of trouble when left home alone.
Every cat is different, so you have to look at how your baby would react to being alone that long. Our cats hate it when we're both gone all day (I'm usually home most of the day) so I can't imagine what they'd do if we left them alone longer. Even the most anti-social cats need a little daily contact. Whether you hire a pet-sitter, ask a neighbor or corral a family member, make arrangements for someone to visit your cat on a daily basis. A daily visitor will keep your cats’ life unaltered by ensuring proper food supply and clean living quarters.
